Talabat Fav 5

Talabat is a widely popular food delivery app from the Middle East. A competitor to Uber eats, Deliveroo and Bolt to name some of the most world widely known in the industry.

In an effort to improve the user experience when it comes to select a restaurant I thought out the feature Fav 5. That consist of a personalized list of the user favorites restaurants - so when the restaurants featured on the list have discounts the user will be notified immediately - and also an opportunity to improve the quality of restaurant reviews.

The problem

Definitely what makes talabat stand out apart from other applications is the amount and variety of discounts updated daily on the app. One of the users I interviewed mentioned that they enjoy the variety of choice but also pointed out how sometimes they wish this specific restaurant had a discount, and how they were waiting for them to eventually come up with 50% off again. Other responses I collected were just that it was very time consuming scrolling through all the options - having too much choice can also be at times overwhelming.

The solution - Fav 5

With the goal of making it easier for the consumer, I introduce the Fav 5. A feature, where the user can choose up to 5 restaurants to have as their Top 5. The restaurant can be added by just simply searching the restaurant name and simply adding it to the list or by after ordering from it adding it to their favourites. Similar to the “like” button on social media but limited to 5. This way when the restaurant has a discount going the user will automatically receive a notification or when accessing the app get a pop up.

The outcome - Reviews

Reviews are very important when it comes to ordering food. In the US, 94% of the population bases their choice of restaurants on reviews. Fav 5 improves the “Rate your Review” button as well. The user will be able to see how many Fav 5 list that restaurant is part of and people will also create a closer relationship to the restaurant to eventually review. This way creating more quality reviews  and building more trust between app and user.

Conclusion

This is a case study so opportunity of testing is a bit limited, in any case I still tested it with the previous users I referred in the beginning and they comeback saying it was an interesting approach. Something that they would like to see implemented and would definitely make their life easier. Other plus is that there is no other delivery app with a similar feature.
